How Different

How Different?

It is easy to get caught up in what you do and by the end of the year it can seem like you are in some sort of robotic trance, desperately trying to fit in all that needs to be done before you can enjoy the well earned festive season.

Which is what I have been doing.

I was wondering, why am I so focused on what I have to do (implement that marketing strategy, write the report, get the Christmas tree, send presents) or what I haven’t done, (brought the presents, review the article, book the electrician) which only leaves me feeling inadequate and a bit stressed out.

I notice these situations occur when I am on autopilot and my awareness is diminished. Many of our behaviours and routines operate independent of our conscious mind. Our brain is so used to a particular practice that it functions without us being aware of it.

When my practice is to focus on “I have to…” or “I haven’t…” I forget why I am doing what I am doing. I forget there is a greater purpose and meaning behind the tasks. I forget that I am the one driving the bus and that I have the power to change it.

I am not always sure what brings me back to awareness, however today I am. I was looking at a sign on my desk that reads PAUSE, BE AWARE and I simply stopped for a while and noticed how I felt and my awareness returned.

I have to laugh at myself when I realise I put myself under so much pressure for things that are not that significant, or important in the moment. What is important is living fully, now and later.

How different could life be, if being in awareness was my normal state?

How different could it be for you?

The business of the festive season is not a job to be done but an experience to be lived.

As the festive season fast approaches, my excitement builds. This is my favourite time of the year. I hear some say that Christmas is commercial and over the top and I say Christmas is what you make it. I so enjoy spending time with those I love, decorating the tree, giving gifts, preparing delicious food, talking, laughing, dancing and celebrating.

And before the merriment begins, I would like to say a big
